Ormhaugen (The Serpent Mound) Farm
Farm number(gnr) 24, Sub-farm number(bnr) 1
In the 1801 Census Ormhaugen was a sub-farm to the Bakken farm. At that time living there was Ole Olsen (Ormhaug, Bakken, Tesli) (1770 - 1851 ) and his father Ole Michelsen Bakken (Ormhaug, Tesli) (1744 - 1808) and his brother Mikkel Olsen Bakken (1768 - ). Ormhaugen became too little for Ole Olsen and in 1802 he moved to Trondheim (Strinda) and purchased the Tesli farm. He was married to Maritte Jacobsdatter Kurås (1761 - 1848) who was born at the Nyplassen farm. Maritte was married twice. This chart shows the marriages and relationships for Ole and Maritte and others from the Bakken and Kuråsen farms.
In 1802 Ole Olsen sold the farm to Thomas Jonsen Koch (1775 - 1837). After the death of his first wife, Anne Jonsdatter Ødegård, Thomas married the widow Karen Jacobsdatter Kurås (1766 - 1834) in 1804. She was the daughter of Jacob Iversen Kurås. In my trip to Norway in October 2014, I met two cousins that are descended from Thomas Jonsen and Karen Jacobsdatter.
Ormhaugen is located just north of Røros. Here is a google map satellite view. Below are some pictures of the Ormhaugen farm.
